at the mercy of the sea

at the mercy of the sea...

far away the sun slips under the horizon
forsaking itself to the sea
and all it's unmerciful power

i breathe in the salty sea air
savoring the bitterness of it
wanting to be one with it

and as the waves keep crashing
soothing in thier rythm
they call to me...

they sing a song of peace
of clear blue darkness
and dreams of tranquility

and it's so beautiful
in all its simplicity
that i can't resist it.

footprints trail after me
as i step closer to the life
that is the deep blue sea

and it's so cold as i step in...
it reminds me of all their bitter words
whispered on the wind

so deeper in i wade
farthur away from shore
from all i've ever known

cool water caresses my fingertips
inviting me in deeper...
'join me...' it breathes

then my toes no longer touch sand
and i'm suspended in the nothingness
that consumes my body

i know i'm never going back
it's too late for that now
and for once there's no fear.

with the gathering darkness
my life fades away
lost in the deep blue sea.

waves crashing over the sand
degrading the shoreline
until theres nothing left but dust.
